December 17, 2015, Groveton, NH: Today, Ampersand Hydro LLC’s (“AHL”) subsidiary Ampersand Brooklyn Dam Hydro LLC (“ABDH”) brought the Brooklyn Dam hydroelectric project online. The 600 kW, two-unit power generating station will feed approximately 2,800 MWh on average every year into the electric grid. This is AHL’s first completed greenfield hydroelectric project, bringing the company’s total number of assets under its control to 18. The Brooklyn Hydro project is located in close proximity to AHL’s Gilman hydroelectric project.
The Brooklyn Project consists of two (2) vertical, fully adjustable Kaplan style turbines, a dam, a powerhouse, a gate structure containing five gates, and transmission facilities. The project has been interconnected to Eversource’s distribution system at 34,500 volt.
“This is the beginning of decade long, reliable, zero-emission power generation right here in the Village of Groveton. Everyone involved with this project is taking pride in seeing the first kWh produced and fed into the grid. The team put in charge for the technical development and construction of the project was sourced locally with direct significant interest in bringing economic activity come back to Groveton – a key element in the successful completion of this effort”, AHL’s Director of Business Development Lutz Loegters stated. The project is fully automated and will be run in an instantaneous run-of-river mode.« Back to the news
